Kenora High Risk H1N1 Clinics

There will be High Risk H1N1 Clinics in Kenora this week beginning Tuesday, October 27th from 10am - 4pm at the Kenora Rec Centre and Friday, October 30th from 9am - 1pm at the Norman Community Club. International Women's Day Celebration

The Kenora Women's Action Network invites you to the International Women's Day celebration at the Best Western Lakeside Inn on Monday March 8 at 7 in the evening. Celebration of International Women's Day

Hoshizaki House, with support from the Dryden Regional Health Centre and the Dryden Native Friendship Centre is hosting an Evening in Celebration of International Women's Day Monday, March 8th. It's taking place at the Royal Canadian Legion - 34 Queen Street, Dryden, with doors opening at 5:30 in the evening. There will be a Spaghetti Dinner, which includes garlic toast, salad, veggies, dessert, and drinks from 6 to 7 o'clock. Local entertainment will follow. Tickets are $12.00 each, and are available at The Camera Corner, and Lotto One. They may also be purchased at the door.

Trylight Theatre

Trylight Theatre in Kenora is offering winter drama classes with instructor, actor and playwright Andrea Rhynard. Classes for children 6 to 12 take place Saturdays starting March 6 and run for 8 weeks. Classes for adults run Monday evenings starting March 22 and go for 6 weeks. Baseball Registration

Kenora Baseball League registration for all division is happening on Wednesday March 10th from 6 until 9 in the evening. Both of the registration days will be taking place in the Walmart parking lot and you can get registration forms on the Kenora Baseball League website.

Take-A-Kid-Ice Fishing Day

Triple P.L.A.Y is hosting a Take-A-Kid-Ice Fishing day on Saturday March 13th from 10:30 in the morning until 2:30 in the afternoon on Lake of the Woods. This is for kids ages 8 - 15 and all the equipment will be provided as well as hot chocolate and snacks. For more info or to register call 466-2785

Moosefest Soapbox Derby Meeting

The Lake of the Woods Museum Mid – Winter Speaker's Series takes place every Saturday at 2 in the afternoon until March 13th. Cost is 5 dollars or 3 dollars for a museum member. For more information call 467-2105

March Break Program

The Lake of the Woods Museum March Break Program for kids ages 6 - 12. This is taking place from Tuesday March 16th until Thursday March 18th every day from 10 until 11:30 in the morning. The theme of the week is "Green!" Cost is 5 dollars a day, 9 dollars for two days and 12 dollars for all three days. For more information or to register call 467-2105.

Pysanky Making

The ladies of the Ukrainian Catholic Women's League well have a Pysanky making class at the Lake of the Woods Museum on Saturday March 20th. This is taking place from 12:30 until 4 in the evening and cost is 10 dollars per person. For more information or to register, call 467-2105

S.T.E.P Program

The Northerwestern Independent Living Services is introducing an Equestrian Therapy Program. The S.T.E.P Program is open to all people with disabilities to use by providing physically and emotionally therapeutic benefits to address various medical or physical conditions. Income Tax Return

If you need help with your income tax return, there are volunteers available to help you complete your return. To be eligible for this service you must be on a low income with a straightforward personal return. The service is available at 44 Queen Street in Dryden, Monday and Thursday from Noon until 4.

March Stache-ness

March "Stache-ness" is a benefit for Prostate Cancer Awareness. Grow your stache for the month of March then come and show it off at Hap's on Friday April 2nd. Cost is 10 dollars per person and there will be live music from Big Boogaloo. All the money earned will go towards Prostate Cancer Canada

Kenora Baseball League Late Registration

The Kenora Baseball League late registration will be talking place at the Kenora Curling Club on Tuesday April 6th from 5:30 until 6 in the evening. For more information call 468-9831

Every Victim Matters

Every Victim Matters is an Awareness Symposium in Kenora on April 20th and in Dryden on April 21st. This is taking place during National Victim of Crime Awareness Week and there will be many different topics and speakers at the event. Cost is 20 dollars per person. The Sunday Smiles Family Entertainment Series is proud to present BAM! "Feel the Beat-Percussion Explosion." Bam Explosion electrifies the crowd with its powerful rhythms and funny sketches. Cancer Gathering

Since cancer has touched so many lives within Kenora, and not all expenses are covered, a volunteer committee is creating a community chest to help those in need. On June 4th, anyone who's been affected by the illness is encouraged to gather at Norman Park, where a range of activities are being planned. Participants will be encouraged to wear their ribbons - pink for breast cancer, light blue for prostate, purple for all other types - in support of friends and family. The Canadian Red Cross is looking for Volunteers to help with their Transportation Program and they are looking for knitters to help out with their Winter Warmth Program. Alzheimer Society

The Alzheimer Society's Respite Centre is available as a support to families living with Alzheimer's disease or related dementias. The centre is situated at 619 9th Street North in Kenora. Family care providers can have a break from one to eight hours during a day Monday thru Friday from 8-4 o'clock. For more information about the Respite Centre and to find out if the centre will be suitable for your loved one, call Dick Schonewille at 468-1516.

CCA

No one has to face cancer alone. If you need help getting to cancer treatment, someone to talk to about living with cancer, or a friendly face to ease the loneliness of waiting at a cancer centre or lodge, our community services volunteers can help. Kenora Community Legal Clinic

The non-profit Kenora Community Legal Clinic holds monthly sessions in their Red Lake and Ear Falls sub-offices. They offer free legal services within their mandate for people who fall within income guidelines, handling issues including tenancy, social assistance, government pensions, employment insurance and criminal injury applications. Canadian Hearing Society - Kenora

The Canadian Hearing Society in Kenora offers hearing testing, hearing aid services and hearing care counseling. They also offer swimming plugs, custom made musician's ear plugs, noise suppressors and information regarding hearing loss and protection. Kenora/Sioux Lookout Support Services Volunteer

Home and Community Support Services Kenora and Sioux Lookout are looking for volunteers for various Community Support Services. Volunteers are the backbone of their organization. Anyone who enjoys working with the elderly and has some time to spare can gain a rewarding experience by volunteering. Please call the office for further information: 468-4562 or 737-3142.

Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels, a support service in Kenora and Sioux Lookout which delivers a meal to a homebound individual to meet that individual's nutritional needs. The meals are delivered by volunteers who provide a regular social contact and some monitoring of potential crisis situations. The program runs 7 days a week including holidays. Advance notice is required call 468-4562 or 737-3142 for more information.

Volunteer Wheels

Volunteer Wheels is a support service that provides escorted transportation to medical appointments, shopping and to participate in various social activities and programs. Volunteers, using private cars, for individuals who meet the eligibility criteria, provide transportation. For information or to volunteer, call 468-4562.

Machin Family Health Team

The Machin Family Health Team is happy to announce that they will be offering educational sessions, via teleconference with Dryden Diabetes Education. For topics and to reserve a spot for a session call 227-2675

Club Day Away

Club Day Away is a support service which provides supervised activities in a group setting for adults to assist in achieving and maintaining their maximum level of functioning, to prevent premature and inappropriate institutionalization and to provide respite and support for caregivers. Club Day Away is now available Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Transportation is arranged and lunch is provided. It costs $6 per day and runs 10am to 3pm. Supportive Housing

Supportive Housing is a support service which provides 24 hour, flexible support to clients residing in Sioux Towers and Patricia Plaza. Support provided can include; personal care, activities of daily living, light housekeeping, medication reminders, exercise routines, grocery program and case management. No fee is charged for this service. For more information please call 737-3142.

Personal Response Service - Lifeline

Personal Response Service Lifeline is a service that gives clients the confidence to continue to live independently in their own home by ensuring that help is only a button push away. To call for help, you simply press the Personal Help Button you wear as a pendant or on a wristband. The personal Help Button activates a small in-home communicator that automatically dials the Lifeline Response Centre. For fees please contact Community Support Services: 737-3142.

Volunteers Needed!

Volunteers are needed in our community! People interested in interacting with seniors are asked to volunteer for delivery of Meals on Wheels once or twice monthly. Club Day Away requires drivers to pick up and return clients Tuesday's to Friday's or help out with the program. Volunteering provides an opportunity to meet new friends, and it looks great on a resume!
